www.strayrescue.org Stray Rescue of St. Louis. Randy Grim is St. Louis' ultimate do-gooder in rescuing dogs and placing them in good homes. A good choice if you're looking to donate to a worthwhile charity.
www.apagc.com Granite City APA. Good people doing a great job and working hard to place dogs and cats in good homes. A GREAT choice for your charity dollars. This particular shelter is in dire need of land and cash donations and they are at the top of my charity list right now. Please support them in any way you can.

www.gentleleader.com A must-have head collar for dogs. Get rid of those BARBARIC choke and prong collars. This is what the pros use and I can vouch for it's effectiveness. With these collars, I can walk a 120 pound dog and a 65 pound dog at the same time and have them under control. It's perfect for that strong dog of yours that walks YOU.
www.lyndellinstitute.com Lyndell Institute is a special place. Sharon and Jamie have created a unique atmosphere for students of Tae Kwon Do, Yoga, Kickboxing and other fitness-related activities for both the mind and body. Upon enrolling at Lyndell, you find yourself surrounded by individuals who treat each other with a level of kindness and respect that I have found at no other place . I like to think of it as martial arts discipline that incorporates warm fuzzies. If you are considering martial arts for yourself or your child, this is the place.

Brown 1 pound of ground turkey in a couple of tablespoons of oil (I use either cheap olive oil or canola oil) in 5 qt. pot. After turkey is browned, add about 12-13 cups of water. Add 4 to 5 buillon cubes - either chicken or beef flavored. Add one cup of plain white rice. Simmer until rice is done (about 20 minutes). Add 1 pound frozen mixed vegetables or 2 cans of mixed veges plus one can of kidney beans. Cook until veges are done. Cool. It will be soup-like in texture, but the dogs like the broth on their dry food. (I then place each day's portion in airtight containers to be microwaved at dinnertime each day.)
Notes: ALDI has the ground turkey for $.99, the buillon cubes for about a dollar, and the rice is something like $.79. Shop & Save has 2-pound packages of frozen mixed vegetables for $1.49. Aldi has canned mixed veges for $.33. You can't buy canned dog food this cheap! If we have leftover rotisserie chicken or if the kids don't finish their hamburger from McDonald's, I add that to the pot to extend it. Feel free to add more items to the pot.
Each year, 440,000 people die of diseases causes by smoking or another form of tobacco use—that’s about 20% of all deaths in the United States.
Pregnant women who smoke are more likely than non-pregnant women to have spontaneous abortions. They are also more likely to have low birth-weight babies; low birth weight is linked to many infant health disorders.
Because of secondhand smoke, each year in the United States, 3,000 non-smokers die of lung cancer and 300,000 children suffer from respiratory tract infections.
If current smoking patterns continue, 25 million people alive today (including 6.4 million children) will die prematurely of smoking-related causes.
I don't want my kids to be one of these statistics.
If you're in the market for a Great Pyrenees and you're near or in Illinois, check out the Great Pyrenees Rescue of Central Illinois at http://www.petfinder.org/shelters/IL88.html. Cindy would be happy to help you in selecting the perfect pyr for you and your family. Her support and encouragement after we got Eva was invaluable. Hey! It's me!

Here is Emily's 7th grade picture.

Here is Jordan's 4rd grade picture.

Here are our girls, Eva and Sunny. Eva is a 7-year-old Great Pyrenees and Sunny is 8-year-old mix.

Gary Abelov is a wonderful dog trainer/behavior specialist who helped us with our initial problems with Eva. I recommend him wholeheartedly. Hang on to his number and pass it along to your friends.

The reason I don't want people smoking around me or my children or husband:
Let's Talk Pizza......
Best pizza around is Imo's. Any St. Louisan knows that. Pig out at your nearest Imo's--I especially recommend the location at Highway 21 & Butler Hill Road. The owners of this restaurant are the nicest people in the world, so I'm giving them a plug on my website. For information, directions or to place an order, call (314) 842-3868
I'm a firm believer in adopting from shelters or rescue groups. Every dog I've ever had has been a stray or from a shelter. I'd have it no other way. My beef with breeders? THERE ARE TOO MANY DOGS AND CATS IN THE WORLD ALREADY AND ADDING TO THE POPULATION IS IRRESPONSIBLE. PERIOD. Dogs from breeders are not better because you paid hundreds of dollars for them. A dog is a dog is a dog. My mutt is just as cute and loving and smart as your dog from a breeder. In a perfect world, my solution would be to have a 3-5 year moratorium on breeding dogs. Since it's not my perfect world, the next best thing is to only get my dogs from shelters/rescue and to give all my charity money to no-kill shelters. One of my favorite quotes sums up my position on this subject: "If you're not part of the solution, then you're part of the problem". Breeders ARE part of the problem.
Reminder: Support your local no-kill shelter or rescue group. These people dig into their own pockets and don't get paid much, if at all. We all owe them a debt of gratitude for their commitment and kindness toward the 4-legged sweeties who so desperately need their help. Here are my personal favorites:
